Summer Tax Institute — June 15-18, 2009
The nineteenth annual Summer Tax Institute is scheduled for June 15-18, 2009. The institute is an educational program of the Center for State and Local Taxation, held on the UC Davis campus. It is an intensive, 4-day educational program for professionals that attracts attorneys, accountants, state tax officials, tax directors, tax managers, and others seeking expertise in the area of state and local taxation. A certificate of completion (for continuing education purposes) is provided at the end of the program.
The summer program has been highly successful. Written evaluations indicate that over 95 percent of the participants would recommend the Institute to others. Students come from both the public and private sectors and represent accounting firms, law firms, state agencies, and private industry from throughout the country. If you are a tax professional with some experience in the area of state and local taxes and seek a broader perspective and a firm foundation for professional growth in this dynamic area, you will want to attend this program.
Classes utilize readings, lectures, case study method, hands-on exercises, and discussions, and feature nationally known scholars, tax administrators, and private practitioners as instructors. Our instructors are experts on a wide range of tax issues and are accessible both in the classroom and on an informal basis throughout the 4 days to discuss students' questions. Some out-of-class preparation may be expected.
The institute has two tracks, Corporate Income Tax and Multistate Sales & Use Tax. Students select one of these tracks.
On the first day of the institute students participate in two core classes that emphasize concepts common to all areas of state and local taxation. For the remaining three days, students specialize in their chosen track. Students in the income tax track choose between two levels of instruction in corporate income taxes depending on their prior experience in the field.
Tuition includes course materials, daily continental breakfast and lunch, a BBQ dinner on Monday night, and an excursion to the wine country for dinner amid the vineyards on Wednesday evening. To be placed on our mailing list, please email Mary Davis.
The Summer Tax Institute reaches enrollment capacity most years, and early registration is strongly recommended.
