Summer Tax Institute — June 16-19, 2008
The eighteenth annual Summer Tax Institute, an educational program administered by the Center for State and Local Taxation, is scheduled for June 16-19, 2008. Held on the UC Davis campus, it is an intensive, 4-day course for professionals who wish to develop or enhance their expertise in the area of state and local taxation. The summer program has been highly successful--written evaluations indicate that over 95 percent of the participants would recommend the Institute to others.
If you are a tax professional with some experience in the area of state and local taxes and seek a broader perspective and a firm foundation for professional growth in this dynamic area, you will want to attend this 4-day study program. Students come from both the public and private sectors and represent accounting firms, law firms, state agencies, and private industry from throughout the country.
The institute has two tracks, Multistate Sales & Use Tax and Corporate Income Tax. Students are required to enroll in one of these tracks. The first day of the Institute provides an in-depth overview of the principles of state and local taxation for all participants. For the next three days, students participate in their pre-selected track. Students in the income tax track choose between two levels of instruction in corporate income taxes depending on their prior experience in the field.
Classes utilize the case study method, hands-on exercises, and lectures, and feature nationally known scholars, tax administrators, and private practitioners as instructors. Many historic and recent U.S. Supreme Court cases are covered. Our instructors are experts on a wide range of tax issues and are accessible both in the classroom and on an informal basis throughout the 4 days to discuss students' questions.
Tuition includes course materials, daily continental breakfasts and lunches, a BBQ dinner on Monday night, and a Thursday evening excursion to the wine country for dinner amid the vineyards.
